16 Pianos in Surround Sound by Nathan Felix
March 20 & 21 at 7:30 pm
Mexican-American composer Nathan Felix returned to Drake University to present his new immersive work titled 16 Pianos in Surround Sound in conjunction with the Drake Piano Program and the Anderson Gallery with two performances. This immersive composition was performed in and around the Anderson Gallery allowing the audience to walk amongst the pianos and performers. The soundscape installation incorporated the experimental videos of Felix. Learn more about this project in the video made by Felix.

The Cadence of Life: An Immersive Opera by Nathan Felix

Inspired by the exhibition Freehand: Drawings and Prints by Judy Pfaff, this unique interdisciplinary collaboration saw Drake Opera Theatre and chamber music students perform the world premiere of a one act opera composed by Mexican-American composer Nathan Felix in the Anderson Gallery. Calling Out Race: Art and Activism Panel Discussion

In conjunction with the exhibition A Thin But Powerful Difference: Race | Embodiment, a panel discussion was held to delve deeper into the issues of the exhibition with artists and community activists. Panelists included Ako Abdul-Samad, Betty Andrews, Phillip Chen, Patti Miller and Nate Young. The panel was be moderated by the Curator Dr. Lenore Metrick-Chen.

This panel discussion with experts from across disciplines explores the intersections of creativity and virtual/augmented reality technologies, human perception and the art in Sean Downey: Two Hundred Percent of Life. The panel includes Dr. Deborah Cronin, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Drake University, Sean Downey, artist and Associate Professor of Art at the Maharishi International University, and Dr. Martin Roth, Associate Professor of Philosophy at Drake University. Lilah Anderson, Anderson Gallery Exhibitions and Community Outreach Manager at Drake University, moderated. The panel was presented on February 24, 2022 in the Anderson Gallery, in conjunction with the exhibition Sean Downey: Two Hundred Percent of Life.
