“Overcome” by Mendi + Keith Obadike @ the Anderson

“Overcome” is a video work that is inspired by ways that music was used during the American Civil Rights Movement.  It is one of the three components from Free/Phase: a project that conceptually remixes African-American freedom songs, thinking about how these songs are encoded politically, musically, and spiritually.

The Edmund Pettus bridge seen in the video is the site of the 1965 bloody confrontation between peaceful civil rights marchers and Alabama State Troopers.
